Backpacks along with metal and weapons detectors were discussed at the first meeting of a newly formed Hempfield School District’s Security Committee.
The Trib reports that the committee was formed after the recent security-related incidents at Hempfield. The committee is made up of members of the school board, the Westmoreland county DA’s office, school police and state police. Backpack rule changes, metal and weapon detectors, and alterations to the district’s search policy were all brought up as potential steps to prevent future incidents at the school at their meeting earlier this week.
