The Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill in Rostraver was fined over $60,000 by the state Department of Environmental Protection after breaking several state rules.
The Trib reports that the DEP fined the landfill site for multiple violations of the Solid Waste Management Act and Clean Streams Law. The landfill, operated by Noble Environmental, was fined $24,000 in 2020 and $25,000 in 2021 for violations. Last year, the landfill was cited by the DEP for leachate that leaked from the facility and made its way into Speers Run.
Along with paying the fine, the landfill must now take corrective actions and put measures in place to prevent future problems.
