The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County has issued a mandatory water conservation order for the 56,000 customers served through the Beaver Run reservoir.
The Trib reports that water levels at the Beaver Run reservoir have dipped to 1,033 feet above sea level, over nine feet below the average for this time of year. Over the last month, the authority has asked people to voluntarily cut back on their water use, but water levels continued to drop. A lack of precipitation is being blamed for the current situation.
Customers in Plum and Monroeville in Allegheny County and Gilpin in Armstrong County, who receive water purchased from MAWC, are also part of the mandatory conservation order.
