A couple from New Kensington is without heat as their chimney caught fire late yesterday morning and fire officials say that it could have been prevented with a routine cleaning.
The Trib reports that crews were called out just after 11:00 AM to a home in the 500 block of Riverview Drive. The people who lived there used a wood-burning stove to heat the house. No injuries were reported in the chimney fire. Officials said what was burning in the chimney was a build-up of creosote, and recommend those that have fireplaces or wood burning stoves to have a professional cleaning before winter starts.
The home remains intact and habitable.
