WESTMORELAND COUNTY REGISTER OF WILLS FACING CONTEMPT OF COURT ALLEGATIONS

The Westmoreland County Register of Wills is facing allegations of contempt of court.  The Trib reports that Sherry Margetti Hamilton is accused of not filing adoption records promptly for cases that go back to 2019.  Her office is required to complete and file adoption certificates within 10 days of a finalized adoption.  Common Pleas Judge Jim Silvis said there were 26 adoption cases and 14 appeals where time requirements to file and process records were violated.  Hamilton could be fined up to $100 and sentenced to 15 days in jail if she is found in contempt of court.  A hearing on the matter will be held March 8th.
