TRIAL UNDERWAY FOR NEW STANTON WOMAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

A trial is now underway for a New Stanton woman charged with assaulting an autistic child in her care.  The Trib reports that 52-year-old Tonya Piper is charged with aggravated and simple assault along with child endangerment for the incident on February 22nd of 2022 at Cooley Day Care at the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg.  During yesterday’s testimony, speech therapist Cassandra Colligan said that she watched Piper slam the child into a chair and up against a table and covered the boy’s mouth with her hand.  Security video of the incident was also shown to jurors.  The defense is expected to present evidence today.
