The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is investing $1 million to remove lead water pipes in the Vandegrift and Leechburg areas. The Trib reports that the $1 million comes from a state grant for projects to replace as many as 200 lead lines. It is the start of a project that will meet federal regulations to replace all lead pipes by 2037. Work is expected to start later this year.
