The family of a Hempfield man who was killed by a drug overdose objected to a plea deal for the person involved in the victim’s death. The Trib reports that 58-year-old Jeffrey Carlson of Glassport in Allegheny County pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and abuse of a corpse related to the death of 26-year-old Michael DeBruyn, but a charge of involuntary manslaughter was not prosecuted. The victim’s mother, Roseanne, asked the judge to reject the plea deal, saying that taking away the one charge took away accountability for Michael’s death. Carlson was sentenced to serve three to 23 months in jail. He will be eligible for parole in late March.
