State Fire Commissioner Thomas Cook is discussing a plan by Governor Shapiro that would increase financial support for fire and EMS service. Cook visited Monroeville yesterday to highlight a package in the governor’s budget proposal that would double the money available for emergency services grants, setting aside 60-million dollars. Cook says that funding is needed as departments across Pennsylvania face difficulties with recruitment and retention and the rising costs of new equipment. Once the new budget is passed fire and EMS services will be able to apply for grant dollars online.
