A planned Senate bill would require Pennsylvania schools to teach about the Holocaust, genocide and civil rights. The proposed legislation by Republican Senator Doug Mastriano would require schools to offer age-appropriate education on the subjects. A similar act was passed by the General Assembly recommended teaching about the issues, but Mastriano’s proposal would make it a requirement. Supporters say students need to be taught what happened to help ensure the attitudes, behaviors and actions that led to genocide never happen again.
