Under terms of a settlement announced yesterday, locally-based Philips Respironics will have to make changes before resuming production at their facilities in Murrysville, New Kensington and Mt. Pleasant. Respironics produces CPAP machines, five million of which have been recalled since 2021 due to issues involving the breakdown of internal foam that can be inhaled by users. The FDA reports that more than 560 people have died in connection with the machine’s use. Respironics has been ordered to overhaul their manufacturing process as well as quality control protocols.
