Two Westmoreland County judges have ruled that the county’s Register of Wills has not complied with multiple court requests. The Trib reports that Sherry Hamilton was found in direct criminal contempt on three counts, including disobedience or neglect by an officer of the court, misconduct by a court officer, and misbehavior in the presence of the court and obstructing the administration of justice. Judges Harry Smail, Jr. and Jim Silvis said she violated two administrative court orders that required her to take corrective action to clear backlogs that delayed certificates of adoption and appeals, and she missed several deadlines set by the court. She will be back in court for a sentencing hearing on June 17th and she faces jail time, personal fines, and the appointment of a conservator for her office.
