Hempfield Township has broken ground on a $16 million project to turn 43 acres into a township park and municipal complex. The Trib reports that the Weatherwood Community Park and Hempfield Municipal Complex is located on land formerly owned by Excela Health off Weatherwood Lane. The township has allocated $8.7 million towards the project. Weatherwood Community Park will feature a splash pad, a playground, outdoor fitness and yoga areas, a pavilion, a walking trail and a building for restrooms and concessions. The municipal complex could house fire department headquarters, the Hempfield Emergency Management Agency and ambulance bays in partnership with Mutual Aid, but that part of the project is still in its planning phases.
