Derry Police Chief Randy Glick remains on medical leave nearly a year after an incident in late August of 2023 that resulted in his K-9 partner being euthanized. The Trib reports that Area residents have criticized borough officials’ treatment of the police dog, Smoke, who was injured August 25th in Glicks backyard when the dog confronted a person in an aggressive manner, bit a second individual and got into a fight with the family dog. Glick had to use a taser on the family dog to stop the fight. Three days later, a vet’s examination determined that Smoke was hurt, and euthanization was the “most humane” option. The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office investigated and announced evidence did not support a criminal charge in the dog’s death.
