A review of security protocols is underway for the Westmoreland County Prison after an inmate attempted to escape and assaulted a guard making early-morning rounds last week. The Trib reports that 37-year-old Michael Crowe of Rillton stuffed paper into a door lock to fool the security system and walked out of his cell just after 3 AM on August 12th when he allegedly assaulted the guard. Crowe is charged with escape, aggravated and simple assault. Warden Steven Pelesky said guards are now required to manually ensure cell doors are locked.
