About two dozen people asked the Department of Environmental Protection at a hearing yesterday to reject a mining company’s request to renew its permit to discharge water from a mine in Donegal Township. The Trib reports that LCT Energy is looking to renew its permit for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System for the Rustic Ridge Number 1 mine. About 65 people attended the two-hour hearing, and none who spoke were in favor of the DEP renewing LCT Energy’s mine water discharge permit. Concerns included drops in water quality and mine subsidence of homes. No deadline is in place for the renewal of the permit.
