The city of Jeannette paid out $660 to house the city’s police dog while the program was temporarily disbanded this summer. The Trib reports that Diesel was put in the kennel from July 30th to August 20th. City officials disbanded the program on July 23rd due to costs and performance, but after an agreement between the city and Diesel’s partner, Sgt. Jim Phillips, for the dog’s care went unsigned, Diesel was dropped off at a kennel. In another abrupt decision, Mayor Curtis Antoniak decided Aug. 19 to reinstate the police dog program, days before Diesel would have had to be moved from the kennel because it was going to be unavailable for a time. Diesel has been on the job since.
