Irwin Borough police are going to join the Westmoreland County SWAT team. The Trib reports that borough council approved the move earlier this week and recommended that Corporal Alex Gillingham be the borough’s representative. He will have further training to be part of the multi-municipality team. Participation in the SWAT team will cost the borough about $600 a year. The first year’s cost is covered by a donation to the borough by Thomas Altman, son of late council member Matilda “Pat” Altman.
