IRWIN BOROUGH CONSIDERS FINANCIAL INCENTIVE FOR NEW POLICE OFFICERS

Leaders in Irwin Borough in Westmoreland County are considering offering a financial incentive for new police officers that remain with their local department for two years.  Included in Irwin’s tentative budget for 2025 is an expenditure to offer $5000 for new officers that meet that criteria.  The idea of a signing bonus was first put forward by the Irwin chief of police who says he quickly loses officers to larger departments after they have been in the borough for a short period of time.
