BURRELL SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES CLOSURE OF STEWART ELEMENTARY

The Burrell School Board is approving the closure of Stewart Elementary.  Members unanimously voted in favor of the plan to shut down the building, which houses only fourth and fifth grade classes, at yesterday’s meeting.  Fourth graders will continue their education at Bon Air Elementary and fifth graders will go to Huston Middle School beginning next fall.  District leaders say it makes more financial sense to shutter the aging elementary and focus refurbishment funding on the remaining properties.
