A Saltsburg man was sentenced to up to five years in prison for causing a fatal crash four years ago in Derry Township. The Trib reports that 47-year-old Martin McKnight entered a guilty plea earlier this week to a charge of felony vehicular homicide. The crash happened on September 15th of 2020, as his pickup truck failed to stop at a red light as he went south on Route 981, hitting the driver’s side door of a pickup truck driven by 62-year-old Alan Goldizen of Blairsville as it was going east on Route 22. Goldizen died from complications from injuries suffered in the crash one month later. McKnight was found by police the next day. As part of the plea deal approved Tuesday, prosecutors dismissed four additional charges including allegations he fled the crash scene and two summary traffic offenses. On top of the 2-5 year prison sentence, he will serve two years probation.
