A Westmoreland County attorney is accused of bilking a woman in jail out of $30,000 to feed his gambling habit. KDKA-TV reports that 69-year-old John Allen Roth visited the victim and offered to represent her, saying he could get her out on a $2500 representation fee. He returned and asked her to sign a power of attorney agreement, granting an employee of his office that power. An investigation by the Westmoreland County DA’s office showed that Roth and his employee withdrew $31,300 from the victim’s account. Roth is facing several charges, including theft, financial exploitation, deceptive business practices and receiving stolen property. The DA’s office says if anyone feels they were victimized in a similar capacity to contact her office.
