The former treasurer of a New Kensington Church was ordered to serve five years of probation for embezzling $21,000 from the church. The Trib reports 75-year-old Cheryl Garnett was arrested last year after city police said she stole the money from Vermont Baptist Church by writing several checks out to “cash” and making withdrawals from ATMs going back to 2018. She was also ordered to pay $21,471 in restitution to the church, and her probation will be terminated once restitution is made.
