The search continues for a Unity Township woman who may have fallen into a sinkhole while looking for a cat on Monday evening. Emergency responders began searching for 64-year-old Elizabeth Pollard early Tuesday morning after finding her five-year-old granddaughter in her vehicle outside a restaurant on Marguerite Road. Rescue workers have confirmed that a shoe was found about 25 feet down in the hole yesterday. The hole is connected to an old mine, according to officials. State Police Trooper Steve Limani says rescuers were able to get down into the mine yesterday evening but they have not found Pollard so far. Investigators on the scene of the rescue believe that the hole she may have fallen into may be a sinkhole from an abandoned mine. The Trib reports that the DEP’s bureau of mine safety was called out early yesterday morning along with other first responders to look for Pollard. They believe the sinkhole was from the abandoned Marguerite Mine, last operated in 1952 by the H.C. Frick Coke Co.
