Westmoreland County leaders are planning to dip into reserve dollars to cover the latest budget. Republican commissioners Sean Kertes and Doug Chew approved the 2025 spending plan yesterday, with Democrat Commissioner Ted Kopas voting against it. The county will need to take nine-million dollars out of the reserve fund to fulfill all the obligations of the new budget, leaving only 15-million for later. Kertes says the spending is needed to keep the county moving forward. The financial layout does not include any new taxes for this year. Commissioner Kopas says he believes the new budget will make tax hikes necessary in the future.
