A Massachusetts man is accused of posing as a police officer while reportedly trying to scam residents in Hempfield Township. State police were initially called to a home on Crows Nest Road around 10 a.m. this past Friday to investigate a report of suspicious person. A woman told troopers 25-year-old Thomas Rooney said he was a Pittsburgh police officer after she refused to open the door to talk to him. Rooney did not have any kind of police identification on him after he was detained, according to PSP. Officials believe he was trying to speak to the woman in order to get her involved in a construction fraud scheme.
