The Penn State board of trustees voted yesterday to close the New Kensington campus along with six others yesterday. WTAE-TV reports that the vote was 25-8. Under the recommendation report, there will be a two-year wind-down period and the campuses will close at the end of the spring 2028 semester. The campuses will not accept new or transfer students after the fall 2025 grading period. Officials say the seven campuses faced declining enrollment and financial downturns, plus the cost to keep them running would be over $200 million, including future facility investments. Students who are impacted by the closures will be offered support and pathways to other Penn State campuses.
