DONEGAL MINE EXPANSION PROJECT CHALLENGED

A mine expansion project in Donegal has been challenged.  The Trib reports that The Mountain Watershed Association wants the state to revoke the permit for LCT Energy LP of Johnstown to expand its Rustic Ridge Mine #1.  The group stated in its June 27th appeal that the state Department of Environmental Protection violated its duties when the permit was granted, saying the granted expansion poses a threat to clean water, local wildlife and the community health in the area.  The group also claimed that Regulators also failed to ensure that the mine subsidence control plan accurately reflects the plan for the operations.  Neither the DEP or LCT Energy have replied to a request for comment.
