A New Kensington-based constable is facing charges of impersonating an officer, and concealing guns from police in violation of a protection from abuse order. The Trib reports that Herman Staple II was pulled over by officers in mid-May for driving what looked like a police vehicle. He identified himself as a retired Pittsburgh police officer, but there is no record of his employment, but he did serve on the New Ken fire police. After his arrest, police seized a 9mm handgun and he surrendered a revolver and three shotguns, but officers later obtained a search warrant, and he admitted to hiding other firearms, including ghost guns, at his house. Staple was unable to post bail and is in Westmoreland County Jail pending hearings later this month.
