A Mt. Pleasant Township man accused of trying to kill his mother missed a court hearing on Monday because he reportedly refused to remove his yarmulke. The Trib reports that Defense Attorney Tim Andrews said that prison officials would not take his client Noel Eckman on the trip from the prison to the courthouse stating the yarmulke was against internal policy related to religious attire. The 49-year-old Eckman, is charged with attempted murder and other related offenses in connection with the Oct. 3, 2023, stabbing of his mother. Andrews said he will seek a court order demanding Eckman be allowed to wear a yarmulke in the future during transit to and from the courthouse.
