Spotted lanternflies have begun returning to the western PA area. Experts say their emergence is tied to their life cycle, noting baby lanternflies are becoming adults and are starting their flying season. The bugs are a non-native and invasive planthopper which destroy plants and trees. They’re originally from Asia and have been found in nearly two-dozen states after first being discovered in Pennsylvania in 2014.
