A national animal advocacy group criticized a probation sentence handed down to a Derry-area woman who pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges. The Trib reports that 45-year-old Kimberly Rose pleaded guilty in late June to 10 counts, including three animal cruelty charges, and was ordered to serve eight years of probation, and is not allowed to possess animals during her supervised release. The group In Defense Of Animals out of San Rafael, California, called the sentence too lenient, and that the plea deal did not sufficiently reflect the cruelty inflicted on the cats in her care. She was charged along with Pamela Curry of Blairsville with allegations that several cats were found dead and hundreds of others were housed in poor conditions in a mobile home and outdoor sheds.
