YARMULKE WEARING PRISONER BACK IN COURT

A Mt. Pleasant Man was in court yesterday one week after he was denied transport from the county jail for not taking off his yarmulke.  The Trib reports that last week, 49-year-old Kort Eckman refused to take off the cap as he is observing Jewish traditions, but officials saw it as a concern related to potential contraband.  Prosecutors say he stabbed his mother as many as 20 times in October of 2023.  She said that her son believed she was a Nazi war criminal.  After a brief consultation, Eckman’s attorneys said he needed more time to consider options, including whether or not to enter a guilty plea.
