Officials in Avonmore have started cleanup efforts after rain caused flash flooding in the borough. The Trib reports that multiple cases of flash flooding were reported through town, effectively overwhelming the borough’s drainage system. Emergency crews spent several hours pumping out basements. In addition to the debris, at least three homes were deemed uninhabitable due to water damage. Officials are assessing the damage. The borough received assistance from Westmoreland Department of Public Safety, various fire departments in surrounding communities and the Red Cross.
