A company that is connected to Walmart is looking for state funding to tear down the Monroeville Mall and redevelop the property. Planners have applied for seven-and-a-half million dollars in grants through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. They plan to demolish the mall entirely and replace it with new retail, restaurant, and entertainment spaces. Walmart purchased the Monroeville Mall earlier this year.
