Westmoreland Intermediate Unit will receive $2 million from a revenue anticipation note that was approved on Tuesday. The Trib reports that the money is anticipated to hold off on any layoffs or program or service cuts for the rest of the calendar year. But in a meeting yesterday, IU executive director Jason Conway said that an unspecified number of employees will get temporary layoff notices within the next two weeks. Those notices would state that they would be off the job starting New Year’s Day because of the state budget impasse. Following the meeting, Conway declined to discuss any details about the layoffs — how many of the intermediate unit’s 300 employees will receive layoff notices and how many in each of the three employee categories — administrators, teachers and teaching assistants — will be impacted.
