The Westmoreland County Commissioners have approved using $11.6 million in state treasury bridge loans to fund essential human services. The Trib reports that this is in response to the four-month long state budget impasse that has halted funding to counties and other agencies. Commissioners said that this was not a good day for county government and that the taxpayers are being forced to pay additional costs associated with the loan. The loan does come with a 4.5% interest rate. It’s still uncertain if that will be waived by the general assembly.
