Police in Irwin Borough are expected to get new firearms. The Trib reports that borough council is expected to approve a request for six duty weapons and two holsters from Witmer Public Safety Group of Coatsville at a cost of $6,074. This will allow the weapons to be standardized which is expected to enhance officer safety in the event of an emergency. If the request is approved next week, this would mean the borough would officially own the guns, and officers would be required to surrender them if they leave the borough police force.
