The furlough of county employees is expected to affect snow removal efforts. The Trib reports that half of the staff will be working to salt and clear county roads. Four of the county’s road employees were furloughed in October amid the state budget impasse and the financial problems it created for Westmoreland County. Early projections for the first month of the temporary job cuts showed financial savings of only $27 to $30,000, which Commissioner Sean Kertes credited to furloughing lower-salaried personnel. The process to recall furloughed workers could start as early as next week.
