Westmoreland County’s first investigating grand jury in over 30 years has finished its work with recommendations for charges against four people in three cases. The Trib reports that The grand jury was seated in April 2024 and met once or twice each month to hear and consider evidence. One of the people charged was former Ligonier Valley Police Chief John Berger on charges of misconduct. Westmoreland County DA Nicole Ziccarelli said she was impressed with the grand jury’s investment in time and energy. Although the current grand jury remains seated, it is not expected to hear additional cases and will soon be formally released from service.
