The Jeannette City School District will pay a settlement to a former student who was sexually assaulted by a high school teacher in 2016. The Trib reports that the school board approved the settlement last month. The lawsuit was filed in federal court last year in federal court, which was later transferred to Westmoreland County Civil Court. The teacher, 38-year-old Maria Chappell was charged by Westmoreland County detectives in 2016 with having sexual relations with a then-16-year-old boy. The victim will receive $150,000 in the settlement.
