Officials in the New Kensington-Arnold School District are considering creating an in-house English as a Second Language, or ESL, program while phasing out the high school’s French program. The Trib reports that there were 16 ESL students districtwide in the 2023-24 school year. That number climbed to 29 last year and 36 this year. She anticipates between 35 and 43 ESL students next school year. Those statistics and the dropping popularity of French as a foreign language class are prompting the proposed changes. The board will take this up at its next meeting on February 3rd.
