Hempfield Township is looking to create an authority to help develop the site of the former state prison in Greensburg. The Trib reports that the township bought the property in 2023, 10 years after the prison closed for $3.5 million with the intent to redevelop the property. Demolition started last year. The development authority’s first task will be to identify new uses for the property. A public hearing will be scheduled in the next few months.
