A North Versailles woman says the jury reached a wrong verdict in her trial where she was convicted of trying to kill her Penn Township roommate. The Trib reports that an appeal was filed last week by the lawyer for Leah Gillis. She was found guilty of attempted murder and other crimes related to an incident on August 2nd, 2022. Prosecutors say she went into a rage after learning her roommate started a romantic relationship with another woman and fired a shot from an over-100-year-old shotgun. Her lawyer said the jury did not consider testimony that the gun used in the shooting was damaged and had misfired. Gillis was ordered to serve eight to 16 years in prison.
