A South Greensburg fire chief accused of stealing from the fire department is in custody in South Carolina. The Trib reports that a charge of felony theft was filed against Matthew White of Hempfield. Police were asked to do a welfare check on him as he had not been seen in several days. When they checked his bank accounts, they found he was in South Carolina, and discovered that he took $170,000 from the fire department. He has not yet been arraigned.
