Hempfield Area High School is considering replacing four grass athletic fields with synthetic turf. The Trib reports that the school’s baseball, softball and multi-purpose grass fields are being considered for replacement. Board members say that the fields don’t get enough recovery time after rain and snowmelt, making it increasingly difficult to maintain proper playing conditions. The project could cost $5 million. The board will vote on it next week.
