Markwayne Mullin will be sworn in at the White House today as the new Department of Homeland Security Secretary. The Senate voted 54-45 Monday to confirm the Oklahoma Republican Senator to replace Kristi Noem, who was fired by President Trump earlier this month and appointed as Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, a new anti-drug initiative in the Western Hemisphere. Democratic Senators John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Martin Heinrich of New Mexico supported his confirmation. The DHS shutdown is currently in its sixth week, with Mullin’s confirmation largely unexpected to unlock a deal.
