A state house bill inspired by a recent case involving pet cremation is on its way to the senate. The Trib reports that House Bill 1750, the companion animal cremation consumer protection act, would increase transparency in pet cremation bookkeeping by requiring providers to detail services, including private and communal options; certify the return of cremated remains; and meet health and safety standards for holding facilities. It was inspired by a recent case where the owner of Vereb funeral home was accused of taking money from pet cremations and disposing the remains in landfills along with giving people the wrong animal remains.
