A Jeannette man pleaded guilty to reduced charges in connection with a fire in 2018 that killed one person and destroyed a home.
The Trib reports that 38-year-old Brian Rendon of Jeannette pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, arson and reckless endangerment in connection with the fire that killed Shirley Kocherans, injured her granddaughter and displaced about 12 people.
Westmoreland County DA Nicole Ziccarelli said that while it wasn’t the outcome she wanted, a ruling regarding some pieces of evidence would have hampered their efforts to secure a murder conviction.
As it stands, the plea deal will mean that Rendon will serve time in jail. His sentencing hearing has not been set yet.
