A lawsuit claims that a Butler County woman who died in the Westmoreland County Prison due to a drug overdose did nothing to prevent that overdose death.
The Trib reports that the wrongful death lawsuit alleged that Elizabeth Fantino consumed illegal drugs while she was at the county prison and was found dead there two days after she was transferred there due to acute combined drug toxicity. Her family claims that “Had Elizabeth remained in (drug withdrawal treatment) and had been given proper management of her withdrawal symptoms, she would not have sought contraband to feed her cravings”, according to the complaint.
The lawsuit names the county, prison staff and the company that provided medical services at the jail until last year.
